“Feeling overwhelmed” is an interesting emotion. It says nothing about the source of overwhelm, and everything about the quantity of it. It also speaks to beliefs of success and failure.
Phone numbers are 7-digits long because humans can’t really remember more than that easily. Seven is at our upper limits. And on top of that, we chunk the numbers into groupings of three and four. Lastly, the area code itself is even easier to remember, and so phone numbers are really 5-digits, not 7.
This is significant because, imagine you were about to call thirty of your friends to invite them to a party, but instead of dialing each 7-digit phone number separately, you had to dial 210 numbers in a row, from memory. That would be overwhelming.
